Staff Council


A staff council in a government degree college is a body that advises the principal on academic and administrative matters. It also helps maintain discipline and the smooth functioning of the college

Composition 

  • The principal is the  chairperson of the council
  • Heads of all academic departments are members
  • One or two teachers are elected to represent the teaching staff
  • The office superintendent represents the office staff
  • The principal nominates a secretary to coordinate the council's affairs

Responsibilities 

  • Consider and report on questions about the college
  • Decide on promotions, term certificates, and the award of scholarships
  • Deal with cases of serious student misconduct
  • Collect and disseminate information about staff issues
  • Increase awareness of college policies
  • Promote equity and enhance the visibility of staff
  • Facilitate collaboration, mentoring, professional development, and knowledge sharing among staff

 

Other functions 

  • Plan celebrations of important days and other co-curricular activities
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the principal
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the institution
